Apple Valley City Council Denies Proposed Data Center Development

The Apple Valley City Council has unanimously rejected a proposal to construct a large-scale data center campus within the city limits. The decision, finalized on March 26, 2026, concludes a year-long review process of the project proposed by Oppidan Investment Co.

Oppidan’s plan involved developing five data center buildings totaling approximately 1.05 million square feet on a 134-acre site located at the southwest corner of County Road 42 and Pilot Knob Road. The land, currently used for sand and gravel mining, is owned by Rockport LLC.

City officials and residents raised several concerns regarding the proposed development, including potential impacts on water usage, environmental pollution, and the effect on existing businesses and future developments in Apple Valley. These apprehensions contributed to the council’s decision to deny the project.

The rejection of this proposal highlights the city’s commitment to thoughtful and sustainable development, ensuring that new projects align with the community’s values and long-term vision.
